Lizzy: So you know what I was thinking about today?

Jason: What?

Lizzy: I was thinking about what our super powers would be.

Jason: Ok. So what would my super power be? Being super good looking?

Lizzy: No. Yours would be organization.

Jason: Organization?

Lizzy: Yeah. Like you could organize any mess in a single bound.

Jason: (chuckles) Alright, then what is your super power?

Lizzy: The ability to fall asleep any where, at any time, no matter what is going on.

Jason: (laughing) Yeah I can see that. I wish I could fall asleep like you do.

Lizzy: It's not really that good of a super power if you think about it.

Jason: Why not?

Lizzy: Well, if I'm always asleep then that's when they can come and kill me.

Jason: Don't worry, I will just organize a safe place for you sleep.

Lizzy: (giggling) Thanks, I love you!

Jason's little brother got married a little while ago. It was a beautiful day and everything was really great. I love going to sealing ceremonies in the temple. It makes me think about the day that Jason and I were married. Our wedding day wasn't nearly as nice and sunny, but that's ok. It was a fun day with lots of family and friends and some great treats.

Jason was in charge of holding the bride's bouquet while she was getting pictures taken.

I was just being silly.

And Jason was...... I'm not really sure what he was doing.

Lake Powell... Again

We did some cruising around.

And we did some boarding.

We even convinced my mom to try wake boarding.

The moon was full and it was windy, which made it hard to sleep, but made for some cool pictures.

And we had a blast with night swimming, glow bracelets, and a slow shutter speed.

Everyone jumping at once.

Then we made Jason put on all the glow bracelets and do back flips.

And we took the customary end of trip group picture.

Jason's New Toy

This is Jason's new toy. He got it a couple weeks ago. Just enough time to get in a few rides before winter sets in.

People keep telling me how brave, daring, and nice I am to let him get it.

Truth is, I like motorcycles.

They make me feel young and carefree. They remind me of falling in love. Nothing beats the feeling of flying fast down the freeway, holding on tight to my man.

Besides, just look at it.

Meet the Jail Breakers

Well just the Van 1 half of them.

As runner #1 I got to start the team out bright and early. Being the very first group, the people out front took a wrong turn and we all followed. We went up a big hill and once I got to the top everyone started yelling to turn around. In the end I ran an extra mile, you know, 'cuz I thought 7 miles wasn't long enough. And yes, my reflective vest is on backwards.

She was smart to sleep while she could. I think we'd all only gotten about 2 hours of sleep the night before.

My mom kept saying how she didn't think she'd be very fast. Yet here she is getting a roadkill.

It turned into a very beautiful day and the towns we were running through were even more gorgeous.

We barely made it to exchange #4 on time and it was slow going trying to get to exchange #5. We came to a standstill and were still a half mile from the next exchange point. We started getting anxious that our runner, my uncle, was going to pass us. Our next runner decided she would start walking to the exchange. I didn't want her to have to go by her self so I got out wearing my flip flops and holding two cameras. We took a quick look behind us and there was my uncle, racing right towards us. So the two of us took off sprinting up the last half mile hill. We made it in just enough time for her to turn around and catch the bracelet/baton.

After lunch, a nap, and some ice packs we were ready for our next legs.

The end of my steep and long not to mention HOT down hill run.

When I finished my knees and quads hurt so bad I was 80% sure that I'd never walk again.

Oh the flag. I know he loves those lovely flags.

After only 4 hours of sleep I was up again. With my awesome backward vest.

I was pretty much just shuffling at this point. I had too little sleep and too little to eat and too many things were hurting. Plus my face was numb from the cold and when I talked it sounded like I had just left the dentist's office.

But my mom on the other hand was awesome. After each run she'd climb in the car and we'd ask how many roadkills she got, she kept saying that after about 40 she lost count. She underestimated her abilities big time!

I was having trouble warming up and being able to eat anything plus I was so exhausted I crashed and slept through pretty much the rest of our van's legs.

When we all finished running we headed back to the campsite and after a shower, clean clothes, and a hot breakfast we were all feeling much better and had some time to kill. I got to play with my two little cousins, who are awesome, but unfortunately this little guys fell off the swing and got a little scraped up. He was sad for a while, but after some chocolate milk and Scooby-Doo he was much better.

Jason told me he wasn't going to make it up to see us, but he tricked me. I was so excited to hang out with him and have him there at the finish line.

Yay we finished!

As I looked through my picture, I got to wondering...

Why is it that everyone else always looks so happy when they're running...

And I'm always the one making really weird faces?

Backpacking in Coyote Gulch

Jason and I decided it was about time we tried out our backpacking backpacks.

So at the advice of some friends we planned a weekend backpacking trip to Coyote Gulch with my family.

After a long bumpy and dusty drive we spent the night at the Jacob Hamblin trail head.

The next morning we headed out and started our trip with a long walk down a sandy road,

until we reached the Forty Mile Ridge trail head.

The trail pretty much disappeared once we reached the slick rock. So we had to play "find the cairn," which is more difficult than it sounds as there are lots of naturally occurring stacks of rocks.

We got a little off course and were glad that at least we were lost during the morning and not in the middle of the afternoon.

We eventually found the correct path and made our way down the "crack-in-the-wall."

The boys lowered our packs so we could squeeze through the narrow section, the very VERY narrow section.

And I, of course, made everyone stop and pose for pictures.

I even made my little brother take picture of Jason and I.

After a long hike downhill hike it felt good to empty our shoes of sand and soak our feet in the stream.

After a taking a break in the shade for some lunch and a failed attempt to hike down to the Escalante we started our hike up Coyote Gulch.

We saw lots of cool amphitheaters and water falls.

Notice how Jason rarely has his shoes on? Most of the time we were hiking in the stream and because it was only a few inches deep with soft sand on the bottom it was much nicer to go barefoot than try to fuss with flip-flops.

We missed the landmark we were looking for to signal our hiking was done for the day. Our backs were getting sore and our bags were growing heavy and we were all ready to call it a day when we turned the corner and saw this. Everyone agreed this was a fantastic place to camp.

We pitched our tents, built a fire, and cooked dinner all while we watched the sun disappear behind the cliffs.

We sat, content to watch the fire light up the bridge.

Except for Jason, he couldn't sit still.

He attempted to write my name in lights.

The next morning we discovered the only bad thing to our campsite when we noticed that anything next to the rocks were crawling with giant daddy long leg spiders.

The second half of our trip was much shorter and we saw more waterfalls.

And even more waterfalls.

Until we came to Jacob Hamblin arch. The end of our hike in the canyon.

So we took a few minutes to sit and enjoy the shade.

And the beauty of it.

And pose for more pictures.

And watch Jason climb all over everything.

Then there was the climb out. Jason climbed it first and made it looked easy. I made an attempt, but got a little nervous with my heavy pack on so I waited for them to toss me the rope.

Jason climbed up and down several times to carry other people's packs.

We finally made it out of the canyon, trekked across more slick rock, got lost a couple times, almost stepped on a snake, and enjoyed some cold drinks before hitting the rough road out.

This last summer my big brother got married to his cute then girlfriend/fiance. And now 7 months later I am getting around to posting some pictures from the wedding. Most of them are just us between the moments when all the exciting and important stuff was happening.

Oh yeah, my mom, my sister, and I made the wedding cake.

Opps, it's crooked. Not too bad at my first crack at a wedding cake I guess. It was really yummy if that counts for anything.

Last month my little brother had a date to the school's Jr. Prom and he asked if I would take some pictures of him and his date because they wanted more than just the ones you get where you stand in line and then they snap a picture of the two of you as your trying to figure out how to pose. So we set a make-shift backdrop in my parent's kitchen and snagged as many lamps as we could. His date was such a champ and put up with what was probably a very awkward situation for her. I tried to make up for it by getting some cute pictures of her in her cute dress.

Hawaii

Over my fall break from school I "had" to go to a work conference. Every 5 years or so this conference happens to be in Hawaii, this year it was on the Big Island, so Jason got to go with me and we extended our stay for a whole week. Two months later I'm finally getting around to posting our pictures.

The bay right out from our hotel, A-Bay, had some pretty good snorkeling. We kept waking up really early because of the time difference so we'd go out and snorkel almost every morning before I had to go to meetings.

There were tons and tons of turtles every where, especially by our hotel. We'd be snorkeling and every time you'd turn around there would be another giant turtle in your face. I almost bumped into them a few times.

Waialea beach. Also had some great snorkeling. I think I saw the most variety of fish here.

I burried Jason in the sand and made him look like a mummy.

We had fun finding fishes and crabs in the tide pools at Two Step and this was the tiniest crab we found.

We wanted to do a session at the Kona LDS Temple, but it was closed for cleaning. Still very pretty on the outside though.

We were trying to get to another beach and stumbled across this partly collapsed lava tube that had filled with fresh water.

But we did go back at night and you could see the glow from the lava. Not quite as cool as seeing actual lava, but still pretty cool.

While I was sitting in meetings Jason went four wheeling and found this beach. Luckily he took me there on our last day and we spent all afternoon just hanging out on the beach.

I think it is called Makalawena Beach, but I can't remember for sure. We had to take a pretty bumpy four wheel drive and then walk a bit to get to it, but it was my favorite beach.

He's so sweet!

It was SO pretty. Jason said it was empty when he found it during the week, but when we visited on Saturday it was really crowded.

We will definitely go back.

We went back to the fresh water filled lava cave to swim in it. It was so much colder then the ocean. There was some little fish in there too.

Jason kept swimming back where it got dark and he said there was only a couple of inches of air between the rock ceiling and the water. I was too scared and claustrophobic to swim back with him.

The turtle I almost stepped on because he blended in so well with the black sand. The last beach we went to by Kiholo Bay. There was also a couple of gorgeous houses there that I wouldn't mind living in.

It was such a fantastic trip! We had a ton of fun spending time with my parents, visiting my grandma, exploring, snorkeling, and just hanging out in a amazing place.

Crash

When ever we go to Lake Powell I spend quite a bit of the time sitting in the back of the boat taking pictures. I'm always trying to catch that perfect moment while each person is behind the boat, whether they are wake boarding, tubing, skiing, or knee boarding. After taking enough of these pictures I think I've just about got the timing figured out. Although, no matter how good these pictures turn out there always seems to be another type of picture that is every one's favorite. The elusive Crash Picture. You rarely have any warning it's going to happen and when you catch it just right, capturing that moment just before they hit the water, they are priceless. Here are some from our trips to Lake Powell this summer.

I don't know what the appeal is, but the boys always seem to want to throw big rocks in the water.

Here are the pictures from the Dirty Dash

The start, it was a super mud hill that was really hard to run up because you kept sliding into people. And the boys were throwing mud at us.

From there we had to run up and down lots of dusty hills.

Then there was suddenly a snow machine blowing snow in our faces. It was a nice surprise, especially after climbing all those hills.

Then there was rows and rows of giant hay bails to jump over.

Then there was giant tubes to crawl through, like the little tunnel things little kids play with.

Then there were these walls to climb over. The mud around these was deep and thick so you couldn't get a good jump, your feet would just sink and stick.

After a long downhill there was a field of tires. An endless field of tires of every size to get through.

A little bit further and we found ourselves in a swamp. The mud was stinky and black and mixed with plant vines. It was up to my mid thigh and the swamp was about 200m long (just my guess, it just felt like we were slogging through it forever). People kept losing their shoes.

Then it was up a giant hill, waiting in line, and a lovely slide down the giant water slide.

And finally through this lovely mud pit. It was more watery then muddy at the beginning, but by the time we got to it it was lovely and thick.

We all look so lovely. Poor Larissa got mud in her eye.

Kev's was a good sport to run with all us girls.

At that point all you really could do was slide.

Yay! I finished. Not very quickly, but it was oh so fun!

Jason wouldn't give me a hug.

This race was great fun. There were so many funny costumes and all the obstacles were fun. It was a tough course, but luckily hardly anybody really cared about their time. It was great to watch Jason run and I had a blast running with my team.

We are definitely game for next year.

Practical Joke on the Practically Blind

After nearly 10 years of wearing contacts my eyeballs decided one day to suddenly become allergic to them.

Great.

My eyeballs were an ugly red. They looked like I had spent the entire previous night drinking, or getting high. I've never done either so I don't really know, but you get the picture. Anyways, after the redness came fuzziness.

So I went to the eye doctor thinking I just needed a new prescription. He told me about the allergic reaction and that my corneas were inflamed. And with inflammation comes white blood cells. So my corneas were nice and cloudy instead of clear.

So out came the contacts until the doc gives the ok. And until I could get to my glasses my vision was extremely fuzzy. Kind of like this. Maybe even worse.

We'll just say for the most part I was practically blind.

Not even 20 minutes later Jason and I were walking around the store, I stopped to look at something and he kept walking not noticing I had stopped. When he did notice I wasn't with him anymore he hid. He just enough so that I couldn't see him but he could watch me.

I looked up and noticed he was gone. I panicked. There was no way I was going to find him in the crowded store. I had to be about 4 inches from someone's face to see what they looked like.

Jason moved closer to me so he was no longer hiding, just standing there, but I still couldn't see him. He just laughed and laughed at how panicked I looked. He finally took pity on me and came back to me.

It's pretty funny now, but for a second I thought I was doomed to wander Costco forever, scarring people by getting all up in their face just to see if they were my husband.

Dirty Dash

I like to run. I might have mentioned it before. Jason isn't such a fan of running.

He prefers more extreme sports.

Enter The Dirty Dash.

What in the world is that you ask.

It is 6.2 miles of pure muddy joy. Or so we hope.

It's a 10K race through a massive amount of mud, with a few obstacles thrown in for the fun of it.

Nothing makes running extreme like a giant mud hill, a slipe-n-slide, walls to climb over, and people throwing water balloons at you.

So Jason and I will both be participating in this madness in few weeks.

I feel like a little kid again, getting all excited to go play in the dirt.

We'll be sure to get some pictures. Just you wait.

Our Garden

One year when I was little my mom let me grow some plants in her garden. I planted a sunflower that was suppose to be red. I was so excited for it to grow and I took very good care of it every day until it was just about to bloom. One morning I went out to check and see if it had bloomed and it was gone.

Just gone, completely gone.

A gopher had eaten it.

After that I swore I'd never try to grow anything again.

It's been many years since then and I've dealt with my gopher issues. So...

Jason and I got our own little garden plot.

It's not very big but we managed to grow some spinach, peas, green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers (mostly thanks to Jason, not me). We also planted green onions, but we planted a little too early because a week after we planted everything, it snowed! I guess that's what we get for living in Utah. The snow also killed our cucumbers, but we replanted them. For a while it didn't seem like our tomatoes or our peppers were going to make it either, but they are finally starting to grow and we even have a few tiny green tomatoes. Hopefully our peppers will produce as well, although we keep accidentally stepping on them and have crushed 2 already.

It's been really fun to watch them all grow and the best part is eating them. If all vegetables at the store tasted as good as home grown ones I think more people would eat them. I know we've been eating them like crazy.

Proud Pet Owners

Jason and I have become proud pet owners. I wasn't too keen on the idea in the beginning, but so far it has worked out great. He is small and quiet. Which is a must when you live in a small apartment that doesn't really allow pets. He doesn't eat or drink much so he doesn't need much watching and doesn't mind when we are gone.

Maybe by now you are wondering what exactly this pet is. A kitten? Nope. A bird? Nope. A fish? Nope.

It's a scorpion. Yep, a scorpion. I definitely never thought I'd end up with a scorpion as a pet, especially after last summer when Jason was stung by one while at Lake Powell.

We went camping down in southern Utah a few weekends ago and Jason found him, put him in a jar to keep the little kids from getting stung, and brought him home. He stayed in the jar for a while and I was surprised he lived, but they are tough little buggers.

We did some research online and we are pretty sure he is an Arizona Bark Scorpion. They are fairly common in the deserts south of here. Unfortunately it also seems he is the most poisonous type of scorpion that can be found in the U.S. Jason found out the hard way how nasty their neurotoxin is, but I don't think they are lethal, unless you're allergic.

Jason still hasn't decided on a name for him and he is still living in a tiny glass jar. He is growing fast though so we will have to put him in something bigger soon. He is fun to have. Although I can't cuddle or play with him like I could with a puppy I like having a pet that doesn't require much work.

I will no longer let myself be classified as a procrastinator. Even if I don't always get things done until the moment before they need to be done. This only happens as a result of too much to do and too little time. From now when this happens it will not be procrastination, it is triage.

The Downside of Running

I've joined up with a couple of ladies from my neighborhood to train for a road race. We go running three times a week. We started running back in November, took a break for the holidays, and have been going strong since the start of the year. We started running with the idea or training for a 10k or a 1/2 marathon which I thought would be a good way for me to get my butt back in shape. Secretly,though, I also thought it would be a good way for me to lose the couple pounds I've gained since high school. So after all this running you'd think I'd be lighter, but no, instead I get woken up at 4:00 AM by my stomach growling so fiercely I am forced to get out of bed and eat something.

This is dumb.

Buy, today as I was driving around for work and listening to the radio. On came Dr. Laura and in her infinite wisdom said something I really liked.

"Love is the constant flow of little things."

Late Night...

This is my late night musing (ramblings?)

Apparently 10 o'clock is late. My high school self would be making fun of my today self right now.

Although I am rather tired I am avoiding going to bed because I am not yet ready for tomorrow.

Don't worry, there is nothing big and bad going down tomorrow (knock on wood.)

I just have this to look forward to:

This semester I have roughly 40-60 pages of textbook reading every night. Which does not include homework, extra studying for quizes & exams, and group projects.

Plus:

I have plenty of these to fill out/ figure out.

I have work, where I will spend the day fielding angry callers, as the office is nearly void of people. (And oh how I wish I could write all my stories from work, they are plentiful and rather amusing in the 'so terrible it's funny' kind of way. Alas I am sufficiently warned of stories of people getting fired/ not hired because of what they have put online.)

We are rapidly reaching the point of having used ALL of
our clean dishes, this means someone (me) has to give in and just do them.

I still have to figure out what I'm going to do for Jason's birthday. Can't drop the ball and be the lame wife I was last year.

So if you don't mind I'm going to continue to sit here, eating Teddy Grahams (which I am extremely addicted to, probably more so than M&M's) watching Project Runway, and thinking about being at Lake Powell in 193 days.

The other day at work I did my hair curly for the first time since I've had it cut short.

That same day I had to go downtown to a building I visit frequently for work, where the security guards know me as the girl with the green purse. As I check in the guard gives me a look. "I recognize the purse, but your hair, your hair is a lot, (long pause), poofy-er than I remember."

Later that same day at work a coworker looks at me, "You're hair is a little (pause) crazy."

Suddenly I feel like I'm back in 8th grade band class where as an already self conscious teenager, the band teacher looks at me and says (in front of the entire class) "Wow, you look like you stuck your finger in an electrical socket."

I have something to confess to you, I miss You. Ever since the last time I saw you I haven't been able to stop thinking about you. I know I don't visit near enough, and I know that summer has only just ended. There is not even snow on the ground yet and I am already dreaming of you. Of your brilliant red rocks that tower over your emerald waters. The well known spots we faithfully return to year after year, and all the amazing new adventures you reveal each time. The mountains of soft sand and the hidden pools.

I have forgive all the times you swallowed up clothes, towels, sunglasses, and wedding rings. I am no longer upset about the flat tires, broken boats engines, drunken idiots, and the desert storms. I am over all the injuries and illnesses and times we were lost. I will think of you when my feet are wet and cold as I trudge through the slush. You will keep me sane through finals week. I promise I will visit again as soon as I can to relax beneath your starry sky and to nap through the heat of the day.

P.S. I was just wondering if this next year you keep the scorpion population down, just a tad. We'd much appreciate it.

What has happened to us? We used to get along so well. For so many years we were great together and you made me excited for each new day. Now I feel as though you no longer like me. I mean we still have some good days, but they are becoming fewer and farther between. What is it? Haven't I given you enough of my time and attention? Yet you are relentless and every day grow increasingly difficult. I feel myself starting to resent you. This is why I think we need to spend some time apart. Halloween

Halloween is one of my most favorite holidays. I don't like the creepy, gory, weird parts, I just like the part where it is fun to dress up and see other people dress up. Have parties and see cute little kids come to the door all dressed up and so excited to be out late at night getting candy. Oh yeah the CANDY of course!!! I have a major sweet tooth, just like my Momma. Anyway Jase and I got to go to our ward Halloween party and dressed up as King & Queen Midas. I thought it was a great costume (partly because I got to be all shiney and glowey and pretty). It was Jason's idea and mostly just because we were trying to think of what we could be that woudl be cheap and we already had a can of gold spray paint.

So here we are, looking good together!

Triathlon

Yes I am finally getting around to writing about the actual thing. First thing, it was SO fun!!! I think everyone should do one because it was amazing. I was so nervous/excited that I couldn't sleep and woke up an hour before my alarm went off. The butterflies were so bad I could hardly eat my breakfast. I was so anxious to get there and get a good spot in the transition area that I left Jason still sleeping. (Don't worry he showed up later). Once I got there, though, all the nervousness was replaced by excitedness. After they wrote my number on my arm and leg I was practically bouncing around. I was lucky and got a pretty good spot for the transition.

I caught up with my brother, his girlfriend Larissa, and her brother AJ in time to head to the starting line. We all lined up in this great big line, all ordered by how fast we said we could swim. I was about in the middle of it all and wasn't able to start till about 20 minutes after the first person started. My brother, Larissa, and AJ started about 7 minutes ahead of me. By the time it was my turn I was getting really anxious.

I did the swim part just fine. I past a few people and finished the 400m swim in 10:20. The water was way too warm though. At first it felt nice because it was a bit cool that early in the morning, but once I started working it was suffocating.

At the end it was harder to climb out of the pool then I would've thought. I almost fell back in. Once I was out I had to run to the transition area and get ready for the biking portion. At that point I was already tired and thought about quitting.

I was able to get through both of the transitions really fast.

The bike part was probably my favorite. There was a giant hill but that meant a really nice long downhill where I could get going really fast without too much effort. It did scare me some to be going so fast because I just kept imagining myself hitting a pothole and flying into a car. Luckily for me I didn't crash, although I did see one girl who had crashed pretty bad and had road rash all over her face. I completed the 9 mile bike portion in 37 minutes.

Unfortunately Jason wasn't able to get any pictures of me biking or running.

After biking my legs felt like lead Jell-o. But I wasn't the only one struggling. By that point everyone was looking beat. There was an EXTREMELY steep hill that we had to run up twice. Well I think I only saw two people run up the entire way, most of us just walked. I did the 5k in 29 minutes, which was a bit slow, but it was a beast of a hill and by that point I was dead tired.

I finished the entire thing and was as SO tired. I managed to sprint in at the end but I felt really sick.

Jason was a good cheerleader even though he barely got to see me running and biking. Just knowing he was out there somewhere cheering for me made a huge difference.

In the end we all had a fantastic time and it was so much fun. I want to do more and think everyone should try one at least once. We all did really well too. Personally I beat my goal time by 1 minute and finished in 1:19:05. Sounds like a long time, but it went by quickly and I managed to come in 4th in my age division. I'm so happy I did it and was able to accomplish it.

I can't wait for next year to do some more!

So my triathlon is tomorrow.

I can't believe it's suddenly here,

It feels like I've been training for ages, but at the same time I also feel like I just started training last week and I can't believe it's here already. It has in fact been 15 weeks of actual training. Well the first two weeks of it I didn't try to hard, but still, that's a long time to me.

And suddenly I find my self on the eve of the event and I am scared out of my mind!!! Last week I went and checked out the course and there are some monstrous hills. There is one in particular that when I first drove past all I thought was "oh please, please don't let that be part of the course." I don't think I have to tell you that it is, and I will have the pleasure of running up it, TWICE! I have butterflies like crazy, they have already filled my stomach and are trying to escape out my throat.

I'm very glad Jason will be there to help cheer me on because I am going to need every little bit of support that I can get.

Underneath being scared out of my wits and somewhere in with all those butterflies is some excitement. I can't wait to see what I can accomplish, to see what my body can endure, and that feeling I know I'll have when I cross the finish line will be like a drug that will make me forget how crazy the whole thing really is. Oh my I can't wait. Wish me luck! (well you really don't have to, but it's just a saying and if you feel like it, it will be much appreciated.)

Summer's End

I started classes again, thus officially ending summer. Usually I enjoy going back to school and the onset of fall, but this year I am rather sad. It has been a great summer and we were so busy that I believe we only had one or two weekends at home. I'm pretty sure our bishopric is starting to think we've become inactive. So I'm going to post pictures from all our summer adventures (because that's really what you are all here for right.)

We started the summer by going to Ohio for our first anniversary (already have pictures up from that one in an older post.)

I started two classes for the summer semester. A stats class that went for only half the semester so the work load was double and it made me want to cry most days. Actually I think I probably did cry at least once. And an accounting class that I had at night once a week for 3 1/2 hours where I discovered that my attention span only last 2 hours.

I started training for my first triathlon.

I got tired of having long hair and how much time it took to dry and straighten and how hot it would get so one day I just decided to chop it all off. It was cut so short that they had to buzz my neck, I've never cut it so short but it was really freeing, although there are times I miss being able to pull it back into a ponytail.

We went mountain biking in the hills out west. It was the first time I had been biking in a long time and it was a lot harder than I remember it being when I was little.

We went on a ward camp out at Pineview Reservoir. We had cold rain the whole time, but luckily we didn't have to wakeboard in the snow like last year. We also experienced a giant grease fire the melted a BBQ grill. We have a great ward so it was a blast.

We spent the 4th of July at Lake Powell with my family. So much fun! Jason landed his first back flip on the wakeboard and while tubing I was thrown 12 ft in the air.

We got to go boating two weekends in a row. More tubing, swimming, wakeboarding, and sunburns.

We went to big family birthday parties for both Jason's and my family. Getting to see everyone is the best, and I made these adorable summery sugar cookies for one of these parties.

Jason's company went out of business leaving him without a job with only a half a days notice.

We got to go back to Lake Powell with my family. Neither Jason or I got much sleep the entire trip. We stayed up the first night to watch the meteor shower, the second night Jason got stung by a scorpion and we made a midnight ride to the clinic to make sure he wasn't going to die, and the last night a storm blew through and it was rainy and very windy all night. Despite that, it was still a fantastic trip and I can't wait to go back next year.

We went down to Southern Utah with my family to spend the weekend camping and hiking. We hiked the Subway, which took all day but was totally worth it. The scenery was gorgeous and so were the formations, the hiking was challenging at spots and the water you have to swim through was SO cold, but oh man I would do it again. We also hiked part of the Narrows, we started at the bottom and hiked up to Orderville Canyon and back down.

So all that along with a few trips to Idaho to see friends and go camping.

A very excellent summer I must say! I am sad to see it go, but there are a few things I have to look forward too this fall and winter, the cooler weather, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, My birthday, candy corn, piling all the blankets on the bed, the changing leaves, Halloween, being one semester closer to graduation, my triathlon, Halloween (yes I love Halloween!).

The Greatest Place on Earth

For the Fourth of July weekend Jason and I were lucky enough to get to go down to Lake Powell with my family. My family has been going to Lake Powell every summer since I was about 7 or 8, and I think it is the Greatest place ever. Even if everything goes wrong and we end up having to come home early it is still so fun, and we've had a couple trips where it felt like nothing went right. If your curious just ask about the "Trip from Hell". The only thing we haven't experienced is any serious injuries, which I am EXTREMELY thankful for, especially with all the stunts the boys like to pull.

Anyway...

The lake is one of the most gorgeous places ever, and it is always changing with the water level. So you never really know what you're going to get when you go down. There are all the crazy formations and the beautiful red rocks, and not to mention the amazing green water.

This is a little canyon that we found and hiked back into. I managed to make it pretty far back thanks to the help of the boys who were even willing to be used as steps.

And yet, even with all this beautiful scenery the best part of the trip (and sometimes the worst) is being packed into a tiny little houseboat with all the family and friends. If I was a good writer I think I would write a book about all my memories while at Powell.

This year we fortunately had a near flawless trip. No flat tires, dead batteries, broken engines, lost keys, obnoxious neighbors, rude guests, injuries, illnesses, or tickets. The only thing we had trouble with was keeping the fridge cold, oh and they canceled the big firework show out on the lake which was a bummer but caused no harm. It being the 4th of July weekend we expected the place to packed, but it was relatively not packed. We got up early a couple of mornings to go wake boarding and the water was about as good as you could ever want.

Jason finally pulled off a back flip and landed it perfectly. Unfortunately this wasn't the time that he landed, it was a previous attempt. I didn't have my camera with me when he did it. Don't worry I learned my lesson, Always take a camera, Always, because all the really cool stuff that happened on the trip didn't get caught on film. Like my Awesome experience while tubing.

I'm going to Tri

It's now a done deal. I am going to be competing in a triathlon at the end of the summer. I've registered and paid. There's no way for me to get my money back now, so I am fully committed to this triathlon now. This means I have to start training ASAP!

I'm so nervous because I am terrible at riding a bike. You know how people always say "don't worry it's like riding a bike." Well for me this phrase is always accompanied by painful flashbacks. In my life riding a bike has always involved loads of band-aids. I'm amazed my mother allowed me to keep riding my bike when I was little, instead of taking it away in fear that I was headed straight for the ER. I have plenty of scars to testify to this fact. The last time I rode a bike was while Jason and I were dating and I ended up stuck in mud up to my calves and completely soaking wet, while he laughed at me. There was also the time I crashed into the parked car, oh and the time I did a flip over my handle bars into some bushes riping up all my clothes and bleeding profusly, and since all the adults were gone I was left to the devices of my siblings to fix me up. Needless to say I am VERY nervous for the bike ride section.

Besides that I am really looking forward to this Tri. I've run plenty so no big deal there, and I am part fish so I'm excited to be swimming. It will also give me incentive to train hard because I'm really hoping I can beat my older brother, or at least be close enough to him to drive him nuts for the next few years. If anyone has any advice for a first time triathlete please feel free to help me out.

My Amazing Husband and the Inconvenient Move

The other day I came home from work and headed out on my run. As I was out a storm was rolling in. It came in looking like what I always pictured when I'd read Greek mythological stories of Apollo in his chariot bringing night to the world. It was that dark and moved in that fast. The closer it got the more energized I felt, it was like I was sucking up all the energy from the storm. I kept going through the rain and lightening. I love thunder storms for that reason, the awesome amount of energy they create, it's times like that when I really just sit back in awe at God's power and knowledge to create a world that is capable of producing that much power on its own. Plus they are just cool to watch.

Once I came home and was dripping wet my amazing husband had done so much around the apartment I almost didn't recognize it. (We just moved so it had been quite chaotic). Than he surprised me we some flowers, some pretty pink lilies to be exact, and lilies are my favorite flower. He proceeded to make me sit down while he cooked me dinner, which he also cleaned up. And after he even rubbed my feet. It was all completely out of the blue, I hadn't had a particularly bad day or anything. Still he is a sweetie and I love it when he pampers me like that and makes me feel like his princess. I Love Him!

Like I just mentioned, we have moved. We didn't really want to, but had no choice. You see our apartment buildings are extremely old and hence have many many problems. Our building we were in was literally falling apart. The walkway for the second floor was so deteriorated that one of our neighbors was walking along and it broke out from under her and she almost fell through. So they gave us an eviction notice and said we all had to be out by the first of July. Rather inconvenient. Luckily we were able to be transferred to a nearby apartment so we could stay in the ward, we also decided to upgrade to a two bedroom. Yay for more space!!! So one Saturday we packed everything up and both our families came over and we moved about a tenth of a mile away. With everyone's help it went real quick and only took about 3 hours. I'm so grateful to have such an amazing family, both mine and Jason's. So now we are just adjusting to the new quirks of another old apartment. I was sad to leave our first apartment, but it's nice to spread out a little more.

One Year Anniversary

Jason and I reached our one year anniversary this May!!! I can't believe it's already been a whole year. I've only known Jase for two years now, but it feels like I've known him forever. So for our anniversary we decided to take a trip to Ohio. Yes I know what you're thinking, Ohio? That's weird. It was actually one of the best trips I've had in a while. We spent the first day at Cedar Point, the amusement park in Sandusky that is huge and has some amazing roller coasters.Like this one. The Top Thrill Dragster. It takes you from 0-120mph in 4 seconds and than shoots you up 420 feet and than straight back down. It's a major rush!This one is the Power Tower, it's like the Rocket at Lagoon, but it's twice as tall. I would probably say that this one was even scarier than the other one. Especially as both Jason and I are scared of heights.We took a day and drove up to Kirtland to see the Kirtland Temple. It was really pretty and very cool to go see. We went to the historic town that is across the street and this is us in front of Newel K. Whitney's storehouse. It was so AMAZING to see where the prophet lived and received revelations. I loved Elizabeth Whitney's yellow house and I thought the wood mill was really cool.Jason's grandpa also live in Ohio so we spent a couple of days with him and his wife, Cherry. Their house is surrounded by gorgeous land that is SO green and is all trees. The frog that we found in the pond.

Our Exciting New Addition

Lately we have mostly just been busy, really busy. Jason has been working like crazy, and I just finished mid-terms. I now have a week off of school for Spring Break and I am super excited for the break, I just wish Jason got a break too. I know it was clear back, but this Valentine's Day was our first Valentine's together (last year Jason was out of town). I tried to wake up early to decorate the apartment with hearts and then make Jase breakfast, but he had the same plan so we made breakfast together. Mostly we kept it pretty low key, but I did make these fantastic Valentine's cookies that looked so cute and I was so proud of.

We got to go snowboarding/skiing with the bishopric in our ward (Jason is the Executive Secretary). The snow was a little mushy, but it was beautifully sunny and we even got sunburned. I skied for most of the day, something I haven't done in years. I picked it back up pretty well though, and then when I switched to my snowboard Jason tried the skis and of course was good at it. He's the kind of person who can pick up pretty much anything and be good right off the bat. He's just pretty amazing like that.

All this is great, but the most exciting thing that's happened to us lately is...... we got a WASHER!!! I know I feel a little silly getting so excited about having a washing machine, but you know, that's what what happens when you get old. We were lucky and got a really amazing deal on it and it is a great washer. Front loading plus all the little settings and bells and whistles you could possibly want on a washer. We had to have the faucets fixed before we could use it because, well we live in a really really really old apartment and everything has something wrong with it. But once it was all fixed Jason went to town and got it all hooked up and we did our laundry, right there in our apartment. It was rather exciting. Those who don't have a washing machine can understand what I mean. Anyway we were both just so excited we took pictures of it. I know we are dorks, but we're OK with that.

Our First Christmas

This year was our first Christmas as a married couple. It turned out to be a pretty good Christmas. We went out and got our first tree, a $30 one from Wal-Mart, which we managed to make look pretty good. It got kind of hard to hide presents from him so I could actually surprise on Christmas morning, but I managed to to pull off a few surprises. It was definitely a good morning and Jason pulled out a few surprises of his own. He got me a coat, lots of socks (I love new socks so it was awesome), new sunglasses, 2 new hats for snowboarding, a jacket, and a new digital camera. But asides from that it was great to spend the time with Jason and both our families. Plus the extra time off work and school was a bonus along with all the snow. Jason and his brothers even decided to jump off his parents roof in to some huge snow drifts. It was crazy, but it also looked pretty fun.

In my attempt to get back in to shape I have started running again. Definitely not the kind of running I used to be able to do, but I am starting back up again in hopes to reach that level again some day. It's been tough. One of the hardest things is to start back up again, at least for me it is. I will get all motivated one day and head out and then I get frustrated that I'm not as fast as I used to be so I'll push myself too hard and end up hurting bad enough that I lose all motivation quit before I hardly began. So this time I'm trying to take it slow and not be too tough on myself. I want to rediscover the love of running I used to feel. Yesterday I came home from work and decided to head out and Jason had had the day off from work so he volunteered to go with me. It was a HUGE help to have someone running with me, especially Jase. I admit I pushed myself a bit harder to try and impress him, but it was the funnest thing and totally reminded me of why I love running. Jason was a champ about it and plodded along with me without complaining or making fun of me (too much). Jason always teases me so compared to what he could've done, it wasn't much at all. I don't think I'll be able to get him to go with me all the time, but it was awesome that he would do something that I love with me, even though it really isn't so easy. Yay for running and for Jason!

Car Crash

Last time I posted I mentioned that I don't have a car to drive right now because I got in an accident, well here are the pictures of the car after. I was fine, but unfortunately the car wasn't so lucky. Jason's been working on fixing it in his free time over the last three and a half weeks and I've become very familiar with the bus. I can't wait to have the car back!!

Sorry it's been so long since I posted. It's a funny thing that happen when you are going so school, working, and newly married. You have no time! I'm sure you all have felt this same way at some point if not all the time. We're still trying to get our apartment put together and all nice looking. I'm taking 15 credit hours at school and that keeps me plenty busy in itself. I'm working about 24 hours a week. And about 3 weeks ago I crashed our car so I have no car and have to get everywhere on the bus, which has some good things about it, but it definitely takes more time to get anywhere. I also still like to have time to spend with my husband, it's sad that some days we come together and go to bed and that's it. So it's hard to motivate myself to blog when I want to spend all my free time with him. But I make an effort and this is what I have for now. Hopefully I'll get pictures of the crashed car soon and than I can tell you all about that.

A year ago from today Jason asked me to be his girl friend. He had just gotten back from a trip to Idaho and had rode his friends motorcycle down. It was late at night, but he stopped by anyway and took me for a ride. We went to one of my favorite parks in Bountiful, it's right below the Bountiful temple, so we could watch the meteor shower that was going on. We laid on the grass talking and enjoying our selves. It was only a week or so before I was moving back to Logan for school so I was kind of worried that he wouldn't want to keep seeing me when I was so far away. We'd only been dating for a month and half so I wouldn't be too surprised if he didn't want to do the whole long distance thing. Anyway, after talking for a bit he got kind of quite and than he started acting cocky, but I could tell he was nervous. Luckily that's when he said he wanted to keep dating after I moved. I felt kind of like I was back in Jr. High when the boy you have a crush on walks up to you and asks if you'll be his girl friend. I was all giggly and extremely happy. It was a great night and now a year later we've been married for almost 3 months.

Mt. Timpanogos

Hooray for Jason and I! We hiked all the way to the top of Mt. Timanogos and survived. It was Jason's cousin, Richard, that invited us to go on the hike with them. It sounded like a good idea at the time so we agreed to go. On Friday night we drove down to Provo and spent the night at Richard's place. We didn't get to sleep until after midnight and were up at 4 a.m. to head out. We met up with some of Richard's family and some of his friends, but didn't actually start hiking till about 6 or 6:30. The first hour or so was still dark and I was tired so I don't really remember it too much. It was good that we went so early though, otherwise it would have been way too hot. We hiked mostly the entire morning before we even reached the Saddle. The sceneary along the way was so pretty though. It was really green and all the flowers were in bloom. Hiking up, although harder, was alot nicer than hiking down. Weird how that happens, but there is so much pounding on your legs going down hills that long and it starts to hurt. Anyway we made it to the Saddle and I thought that was way cool, but it was even more amazing at the summit. The hike between the Saddle and the summit is kind of scary. It's not really hiking so much as it is just scrambling up any way you can. The view from the very top is so worth it though. Once we reached the top and got to rest I was so glad I did it. After that was the best part of all, sliding down the glacier. I was scared at first because it's so steep and so long, but it was so much fun (except the part where your pants are all wet when you reach the bottom). After the glacier Jase and I were really tired and started to head down. The hike down seemed endless, you couldn't really stop to rest because you would either stop in the shade and be eaten alive by mosquitos, or not be bothered by mosquitos and stop on the rock slides that had absolutley no shade. This made both Jase and I onry since we were tired and hurting and wanting to get home, oh yeah plus we had run out of water. It's funny now and I'm glad I did the hike, but we're both still recovering from it and it'll probably be at least a year before I think it sounds like a good idea to hike it again.

Motorcycle Crash

This last weekend Jason and I took a trip up to Idaho to visit some friends and to spend a day boating at American Falls Reservoir. On Friday night Jason borrowed a motorcycle from a friend and we all went out for a ride. We were just cruising along and suddenly the guy in the back of the pack was not there any more. So we slowed down and turned to another rider. As Jason was talking to them we didn't notice that we were headed off the road into the dirt. Soon as Jason noticed he tried to slowly bring the bike back on the road so it would slide in the dirt. Unfortunately there was a sign post coming up fast right in front of us. So he made one last effort to pull the bike back when the back tire slide out from under us on the sandy gravel and we both went with it. We were very lucky that neither of us really got hurt. My knee got cut up because I was wearing shorts, and Jason scrapped up his hand. The damage to the bike wasn't too bad either, a broken headlight and a part that cost $8 was it. We were extremely relieved. I still hope that soon Jase and I can get our own bike, but I'll make sure to always wear pants and a helmet from now on.

P.S. As of today we have been married for 2 months! It's been a great two months. Yeah, we've had a few bumps in the road, but it has been so much fun. So Yay for laughing and being in Love!!

Going Crazy Waiting

So we've been married for 4 days short of two months, it'll be two months on the 22nd. But we've still yet to see our wedding pictures from the photographer we hired. I'm going crazy waiting! He was really quick about getting our engagement and bridal pictures to us so I thought he'd be quick with these ones too. I'm sure he did an amazing job on them, because all our other ones he did great work, but I want to see them! I'm getting all anxious, and it only gets worse every time someone asks to see them. I emailed him once and he said he was working on them, but that was a month ago. I think it is time I take more drastic action. A phone call. To tell him I want them right now. Ok, I probably wouldn't be that demanding, I don't think I could be. Just so I know when they will be done. If I have a date to look forward to I can wait much more patiently.

WALL E

The other weekend Jason and I went with some friends and saw Wall E at the Gateway. Being a Pixar movie I was expecting it to be cute, but I under estimated it. It was an excellent movie! Probably one of the best movies I have seen in a long long time. Through out the whole movie there is only probably about 10 minutes of dialogue, which sounds really boring (like Cast Away), but it only makes the movie better. They go around saying "Wall E" & "Eve" the whole time, but it's cute how that's all they need to say to convey everything they want. It's amazing how attached to two little animated robots you can become. I almost cried twice during the movie it was so touching and almost heartbreaking. Most of the time though, I was laughing. There is a lot of politicalness in the movie, which I thought would bother me, but it wasn't in your face and preachy about it, it was just there. In the end you are just happy you saw it and feel like going for a run. Over all though a very very good movie and I recommend it to anyone. It makes a person happy to see that they can still, occasionally make a good family movie.

Yay for carpet

This last weekend Jason and I finally got carpet. Ok it's only a remnent peice we cut to fit our front room, but still, it's carpet. It's funny that I'm so excited about carpet, but if you had seen our apartment before and after you would be excited to. The linoleum floors that we have through the whole apartment are rather ugly and really hard to clean. I could sweep it every day and you'd still walk through it and end up with all sorts of fun stuff sticking to the bottom of your feet. So now with our carpet and a few rugs it isn't quite as bad. Plus it makes the whole apartment seem more homey and comfortable. So Yay! for carpet!!

Lake Powell

We just got back from Lake Powell yesterday. Can I just tell you all how much I love Lake Powell. It is my most favorite place in the whole planet. I think when I get old I want to retire and go live on a houseboat down on the lake. I've also decided that if I could pick what my heaven looks like (like in the book Lovely Bones) it would be like Lake Powell. It is so beautiful down there, all the red rocks and sand and amazing formations. The wind and water does some incredible things that leave me just stunned at how gorgeous they are. Aside from that though, the part I love most about it is being down there is being with family and good friends. We all cram into a houseboat that's not very big. But instead of feeling cramped we play all sorts of card games and talk for hours and hours, sharing stories, remembering good times, and laughing at the silly things that have happened so far. It's just so amazingly great and I haven't even talked about the fun of tubing, wake boarding, cliff jumping, exploring, The Crack, catching lizards, chasing mice off the boat, being surprised by a random assortment of other creatures, sitting around a fire, staring at the stars trying to count the shooting ones, helping someone out or having someone help you out when your in trouble, oh there is just so much wonderfulness about that place. I can't wait to go again!
